Friedrichstraße 43-45, 10117 Berlin
Around the clock
The once notorious Checkpoint Charlie border crossing is one of the most famous places in Berlin and the centre of countless stories about the Cold War. This border crossing between East and West Berlin was often the scene of escape attempts or the exchange of agents and spies. In 1961 a threatening tank confrontation between the Red Army and Allied troops occurred at Checkpoint Charly. It is thanks to an American general that this dangerous situation came to a peaceful end.
